How to Use Pearl Sand Wax: Make a Reusable Candle in 5 Minutes
If you love the glow of a candle but not the mess of melting wax, pearl sand wax is about to become your new favorite thing. You pour it, add a wick, add a little scent, and light it. That's it. No double boiler, no waiting for wax to set, and when you're done you can refresh the same jar again and again.
At KENI, we're a Lebanese brand, and pearl sand wax has quickly become one of the easiest ways for candle lovers in Lebanon to make their own scented candles at home.
In this guide we'll walk you through exactly how to use pearl sand wax, how to scent it with fragrance oils, and how to keep reusing it safely. Everything you need comes together in the Pearl Sand Wax Complete Kit – 2 Fragrances.
What is pearl sand wax?
Pearl sand wax is a granular candle wax with a fine, pearl-like texture. Instead of melting it and pouring it like traditional candle wax, you simply pour the granules into a heat-safe container, insert a wick, and light it. The flame melts only the wax right around the wick, while the rest of the jar stays loose and sandy.
KENI Pearl Sand Wax is 100% plant-based and made for effortless candle making. Because no melting is required, you can pour it, layer it, restyle it and reuse it whenever you like. It's perfect for DIY and decorative candles, and it's a lovely, low-effort way to scent your home.
Quick note: pearl sand wax is candle wax. It has nothing to do with hair removal or sugaring wax.

What you need: wax, wicks, jar and fragrance oil
To make your first sand candle, you only need four things:
- Pearl sand wax. KENI Pearl Sand Wax comes in a 600 g / 21.16 oz bag.
- Candle wicks. KENI Candle Wicks come in a pack of 30, so you always have a fresh one ready.
- A heat-safe container. The KENI Clear Glass Candle Jar is heat-resistant, holds 226 ml / 8 oz, and is reusable and easy to clean.
- Fragrance oil (optional, but lovely). KENI fragrance oils come in 30 g / 1 oz bottles and are highly concentrated, so a few drops go a long way.
The easiest way to start is the Pearl Sand Wax Complete Kit – 2 Fragrances. It includes Pearl Sand Wax (600 g), a Clear Glass Candle Jar, Candle Wicks (30 pcs) and 2 Fragrance Oils of your choice (30 g each). You can also shop the wax, wicks and jar on their own in our Pearl Sand Wax Accessories collection.
Step by step: make your first sand candle
Set aside about five minutes and a clean, flat surface. Then:
- Pour the wax. Pour the pearl sand wax into your glass candle jar or another heat-safe container. Leave a little space at the top so it's easy to handle. Keep whatever is left in the bag for topping up later.
- Add fragrance. Add a few drops of your favorite KENI fragrance oil onto the wax. You can gently mix it into the top layer with a spoon or stick.
- Insert the wick. Push a candle wick into the center of the wax, making sure it stands straight and upright.
- Trim the wick. Trim the wick to about 1 cm above the wax surface. A short wick gives a calmer, cleaner flame.
- Light and enjoy. Place the jar on a heat-resistant surface, light the wick, and enjoy your candle.
That's the whole process. No melting, no waiting.
How to add fragrance oil (and mix scents)
The KENI fragrance oils are highly concentrated, so start small. A few drops are enough to scent the wax. You can always add a little more next time if you want a stronger scent, but it's hard to take scent away once it's in.
The fun part is that you can mix fragrances. Here are the 14 KENI fragrance oils to choose from:
- Amber Wood
- Blackberry Gardenia
- Coconut
- Gardenia
- Indian Amber
- Jasmine
- Lemongrass
- Lily of the Valley
- Lavender
- Eucalyptus Mint
- Ocean Breeze
- Redberry
- Vanilla
- White Musk

A few pairings to try:
- Cozy evening: Vanilla with Indian Amber or Amber Wood.
- Fresh and clean: Ocean Breeze with Eucalyptus Mint or Lemongrass.
- Soft floral: Jasmine with White Musk, or Gardenia with Lily of the Valley.
- Sweet and fruity: Redberry or Blackberry Gardenia with Coconut.

How to refresh and reuse it
This is where pearl sand wax really shines. When your candle has burned for a while:
- Blow out the flame and let the wax cool completely.
- Remove the used wax area around the wick, along with the old wick.
- Top up the jar with fresh pearl sand wax.
- Add a new wick and a few drops of fragrance oil if you like.
- Trim the wick to about 1 cm and light it again.
Because you're only replacing the part that was used, you get to keep the same jar going, and you can switch scents every time you refresh it.
Choosing a container and wick spacing
Any container you use should be heat-safe. Glass made for candles, like the KENI Clear Glass Candle Jar, is a great choice. Avoid plastic, thin decorative glass, or anything that could crack or catch fire.
For a standard jar like ours, one wick in the center is enough. If you want to use a wider bowl or tray, you can add more wicks. Space them evenly and keep each wick well away from the edges of the container so the glass doesn't overheat.
Safety tips
Sand wax candles are simple, but they're still real candles. Keep these habits:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, drafts and anything that can catch fire.
- Keep the wick trimmed to about 1 cm before each use.
- Don't move the jar while it's lit, and let it cool completely before you touch it or refresh the wax.
- Make sure there's always a layer of wax under the wick, and don't let it burn down to the bottom of the jar.
FAQ
How long does pearl sand wax burn?
KENI Pearl Sand Wax (600 g) offers up to 140 hours of burn time. How long your own candle lasts depends on the size of your container, the number of wicks, and how long you burn it each time. Because you can top it up with fresh wax, one jar can keep going for a long time.
Can you reuse pearl sand wax?
Yes. Once the candle cools, remove the used wax around the wick, top up with fresh sand wax, add a new wick and a few drops of fragrance oil, and light it again.
How much fragrance oil should I add?
Just a few drops. KENI fragrance oils are highly concentrated, so start small and add a little more next time if you'd like a stronger scent.
What jar should I use?
Use a heat-safe container. The KENI Clear Glass Candle Jar (226 ml / 8 oz) is heat-resistant and designed for pearl sand wax candles. It's also reusable and easy to clean.
Do I need to melt pearl sand wax?
No. That's the beauty of it. You pour it straight from the bag into your jar, insert a wick and light it.
